Trip to the Yadkin Valley RR in North Carolina
Author: PALuvR

I made the trip from Boone to Roaring River, NC yesterday to satisfy my need to get trackside again. I only shot the west end of YVRR (Roaring River to Burch) on this trip. First a caveat: couldn't find my tripod so all shots were "grab" style and some may be a bit "fuzzy". Sorry about that.
There are a total of 11 shots.

1. Arriving at the Louisiana-Pacific facility just west of Roaring River. This is the trailing unit. Headend can be seen between the legs of the conveyor.
2. View of the woodchip loadout. That inbound train is working around the bend out of sight.
3. Center beam flats on a siding

That first one is a good shot! That's about the smallest logo you could put on a six axle locomotive. They'll get a black dip scheme soon enough

4. Power returned and uncoupled from its train
5. Picking up woodchip loads. Headend boxcar can be seen to the right.
6. Pulling out the loads

7. Heading back east into Roaring River. A cut of covered hoppers was also picked up and can be seen behind the woodchips,
8. Coming into Elkin.

11. East end of the Mitchell River Bridge in Burch.

Nice shots.  Hopefully, with that among the handful of shortlines (well, railroads in general) you have in your reach, we'll see some photos from time to time.  Anyone know which paper mill those woodchips go to?  I was thinking those might go to Canton, NC but that would be one heck of a circuitous route now if they do (and woodchips usually don't travel all that far).

I talked to a trucker who had just hooked up a trailer load of woodchips who said he was taking them to Canton. So a least they are being trucked to Canton but no idea about the rail movement of them.
Next trip is to eastern end of the YVRR around Winston-Salem. Hopefully my luck will hold out! Thanks.
