Eastern Railroad Discussion > Reading & Northern "Fast Freight Service" #5018Date: 08/10/20 08:24 Reading & Northern "Fast Freight Service" #5018 Author: PennRailVideos Aug. 9th, 2020.
Fresh out of the paint booth, RBMN SD50-2 #5018 is getting a new flashy scheme for the R&N's dubbed "Fast Freight" service. Apparently all four of the former CSX SD50-2s will be getting this scheme. At first I didn't like it, but after seeing it in person, it has grown on me. Although I've been told there's ointment avaliable to treat the growth. Perhaps I can use an essential oil. - Adam C. I doubt it's complete - looks like the letters and numbers on the flanks are just masking for further painting, and I would assume they'll slap a nose logo on (at least I hope so) and some cab numbers. I'll reserve judgement until complete. I bet the lettering will be red however, the 90 degree black separation line on the hood in my opinion would look better with a radius instead, again, just my opinion. And it needs a nose logo of some type.

It seems to match the colors they used to touch up the Ex-NS F-units. I think its a decent scheme, though the nose design and striping that has to step down around the radiator is a little odd. A second "Z" on the nose may have made for a less abrupt change from grey to red, and lowering the color separation or doing a reverse "z" ahead of the radiator may have helped that area. The reverse "z" ahead of the radiator would also have created the outline of a keystone.
The only thing I hate is that we missed the opportunity to see these painted in one of the RBMN's existing paint schemes, or a new "Bee Line" RDG-style livery. It seems to be a departure from the traditional corporate image. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/10/20 14:06 by ARandall70. This scheme is too harsh, not as nice. But I love the railroad and all it stands for! Great people in charge. Date: 08/10/20 19:53 Re: Reading & Northern "Fast Freight Service" #5018 Author: ALCO630 sp8192 Wrote:

The original iamges in this thread did not give chance to a full impression of the finished product though no fault of the photographer. Meaning this finished liocmotive looks good with the black lettering on the lood hood, the logo on the cab side and the stripes on the nose
