Some background info on CSX 7227
Author: Pattenburg

Was trackside down in Hillsborough (NJ) on Sunday and mid train was CSX's 404 DPUs with CSX 403 followed by CSX 7227. This unit's clean looks and sporting what looks like a new paint job made me wonder what its history is and if it was going to CP since that is what research on the Internet turned up on 7227. Any information on this unit would be appreciated.

According to the Diesel Shop site, Note 72, it's a CM44AH rebuilt from CW44AC #226.  Gerry

Please elaborate on the CP comment. Did they buy CSX engines?

this was what I came across while searching for information on that 7227

Those were NS SD80MAC's sold to CP, now in Winnipeg.

Does anyone have any more info on the CSX AC4400 rebuild program, and how many units are slated to get overhauled? I noticed a batch of them appeared earlier in the year, but until seeing this photo (and actually spotting this loco parked in S Philly yard on Sat. afternoon) I haven't seen many locos with increasing 70xx and 72xx road #s (not like the steady stream of NS -9 rebuilds that seem to constantly be marching out of Altoona/Erie/Ft. Worth). I've also noticed a handful of freshly repainted low-number CSX AC4400 on the various photo sites and cams recently, making me wonder if the GE rebuild was a trial and CSX is performing a competeing internal program.
