NS Office Car Special
Author: tuxedorailfan

Well, thanks to a generous employer, I was able to burn a few hours this morning and chase NS 942, the Office Car Special, into and out of Meridian, MS today. The train had a recently bathed Wabash Heritage unit on the point pulling 6 cars with the company brass on board. Of note, this is the first time the NS OCS has went south to New Orleans in at least 10 years, maybe longer. Usually they come to Meridian and go right back to Atlanta,

Image 1 is the train slowing to meet NS 226 (KCS ZLCAI) at York, AL.
Image 2 is a pan shot of the train gliding through the small community of Russell, MS at speed.
Image 3 is a shot of the train on NO&NE rails passing by a small swamp along the ROW.

It was a nice and uneventful chase. NS Police was present, but was glad railfans were practicing safety. The train crew on both the AGS end and NO&NE put on a good show for me and tolerated my chasing of the train.

Enjoy!

-Dylan

It was a full train, I would imagine so.

Nice work, and kudos to your employer too. My boss doesn't mind if I "briefly step out of the office" when something good is coming (as long as the work gets done).

That pan shot is outstanding!  The engine doesn't match the consist, but that's cool that they purposely picked that engine.

I'm just glad they washed it. Personally, I think the Southern unit would've been better since it was on Southern tracks, but hey, I'm not picky!

I agree, and anyway on any railroad if the COO was there you wouldn't see any empty seats.

Maybe it is Katie Farmer in the end car at the window.

Yes. Most railroads have OCS trains going on during covid. Not much of a difference any other time  to them.

Covid has them spread out. The train was full. She may have been in ove of the other cars. Who knows.

I love picture number 2!   Reminds me of Wabash engines I used to see going through Lafayette IN while I was a student at Purdue in the early 60's. Then came 1964 when N&W bought Wabash. ....Ugly Black took over....

Welcome to the crowd.  Those changes happened to a bunch of us and railroads.
