Eastern Railroad Discussion > Delray Tower in Detroit ClosedDate: 11/17/20 19:36 Delray Tower in Detroit Closed Author: RuleG Today's Trains.com Newswire has an article about Delray Tower in Detroit closing effective November 16. It was one of two staffed towers remaining in Michigan. CSX, Norfolk Southern, and Conrail Shared Assets trains operate through interlocking on tracks owned by those railroads. Additionally, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific also operate through the site on trackage rights.
According to the article, during the Conrail era, 60 - 80 freights per day operated through the interlocking. Current averages are 32 to 38 daily trains. Edited 1 time(s). Same same. TAW Date: 11/17/20 20:17 Re: Delray Tower in Detroit Closed Author: DJ-12 Sad to see this. Having lived in greater Detroit during the Conrail Era, 60-80 trains a day sounds somewhat excessive to me, at least during the 90s.
