I&M RS1325 #31 reaches new home
Author: Off-pending

Former C&IM RS1325, IMRR #31 was delivered to the Monticello Railway Museum early Tuesday morning. The unit was towed to the museums shop complex and is now safe for future generations to enjoy.

At the same time, a group of museum members were in Alabama prepping former Illinois Terminal SW1200 784 for movement to Monticello.

Both locomotives are a huge acquisition for the museum. Not to mention earlier acquisitions this year of an IC baggage car, an IC lounge combo and the former Rock Island turntable from Peoria Illinois.

Because of the pandemic the museum has not been able to operate any trains or special events. Work is continuing on multiple projects taking advantage of the downtime.

You can follow the museum on Facebook or go to their website at www.mrym.org.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to donate to 31 & 784 projects. Follow the link below to donate.

Yes, there have been many strides made at MRM during the covid crisis and they have also been offering Throttle Time for hire occasionally.

Thanks for the photo and update. The Bridgeport crew was hoping to have 784 ready to ship as early as yesterday. How are they coming along?

The Bridgeport crew left for home yesterday. They completed everything needed to get the unit moving north. The unit needs to be inspected by the class 1’s shipping it. Hopefully that happens within the week.

Nice to see #31 arrive. I remember when Model Railroader published RS-1325 drawings in the very early 1960's (including the higher-hood steam generator option). I was intrigued. I actually photographed one of them once on the C&IM during my brief time in central Illinois. It was on a roll of film that got damaged.

Sent the GoFundMe a few bucks. I'd like to get to the museum once we can travel again.

Perfect timing.  Just came up with a slide of this locomotive in its  C&IM paint in '74.  I'll scan and post it when it arrives.
