NJ/NY to boost container traffic
Author: Lackawanna484

NJ.com reports the state has invested billions in highway improvements around Port Newark and Port Elizabeth. It is now the #2 port in the US. Los Angeles is first.

No mention of rail. It would be great to slice off a few shekels for rail improvements. Many Los Angeles area improvements like the Alameda trench already exist in the largely grade crossing free Newark area.

This is total speculation but I believe a lot of the truck traffic is headed from NY/NJ to the Lehigh Valley, PA area. With the number of gigantic monstrosity warehouses that have gone up in the area I have to believe it makes more sense to pull trailers ~75 miles to PA than to put them on a rail at.

Now if only PA would upgrade I78, PA 100, US22, etc to accommodate the massive increase in truck traffic........
