Eastern Railroad Discussion > NS Heritage, CSX Stacks around Hagerstown, MD.Date: 11/24/20 05:23 NS Heritage, CSX Stacks around Hagerstown, MD. Author: bigsavage Mostly overcast skies on 11/21/20, but good railfanning with steady action on the NS lines in and out of Hagerstown, plus a catch of a CSX stack train for Chambersburg, PA.
Spent several hours around Sharpsburg, MD., a favorite place for 30 years. NS's "H" line has some interesting engineering here as it climbs/descends into and out of the Potomac River valley. NS 11Z is approaching Mondell Rd. crossing with Penn Central heritage #1073. Date: 11/24/20 05:30 Re: NS Heritage, CSX Stacks around Hagerstown, MD. Author: bigsavage NS 13R with rear DPU runs through a farm just south of Sharpsburg, MD., shot from the shoulder of MD RT34.
As the overcast darkened, a short NS 228 hits MP14 at Antietam Station, MD. Date: 11/24/20 05:36 Re: NS Heritage, CSX Stacks around Hagerstown, MD. Author: bigsavage Before leaving, NS 227 came north at Antietam Station, seen here passing the remains of a Civil War monument for the Battle of Antietam.
CSX Stack train Q016 came through Hagerstown on its way to Chambersburg, we got ahead of it at Waynecastle, PA. This was a hotspot on the former Western Maryland Railway Lurgan line. Today there are 2 stack trains daily and a occasional local on these rails, although the trackage appears to be in very good shape. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/24/20 05:40 by bigsavage. We were able to catch up at Maugansville, MD., and again just south of Vardo yard at Rench Road. Photo at Greencastle by Ted Grumbine, all others by Warren W. Jenkins |
