Rare Delmarva Mileage Yesterday
Author: cr2581

A minor derailment in or near the PBF facility at Delaware City resulted in DCR's Clayton Turn running north to Tasker Siding in Bear to pick up the daily interchange traffic. Operating as DCR-3 instead of the usual HA-1, the pair of brightly colored SD40s were a welcome sight at locations they do not normally visit. The first image shows them passing NS K60 which has just delivered their train. The second shows them crossing Route 7 and the last shows them rolling along south of Middletown.

Enjoy !

Sweet lighting for these excellent captures!
Q1: are those coal hoppers head out?
Q2: are those SD60Es regular power for NS' Delaware ops? Recently NS began using SD60E leaders on the Chicago - Ayer pig trains east of Binghamton because they feature both I-ETMS GPS-based PTC (needed for traversing CP between Schenectady and Mechanicville) and ACSES transponder-based PTC (need for running in MBTA territory between Wachusett and Ayer). Thanks.

Q1: Stone hoppers
Q2: It would seem that the SD60E's are becoming common local power in a number of locations.  They are equipped with PTC, Cab Signal w/ LSL and so they are rather flexible in terms of where they can operate.

The SD60E's have been standard power on Delmarva since January.
