Eastern Railroad Discussion > Major NS derailment Amherst, OhioDate: 12/01/20 11:03 Major NS derailment Amherst, Ohio Author: bath_wildcat Hello all,
Just got word from one of the groups I'm in on Facebook that NS 310 has derailed more than 10 cars in Amherst, Ohio. 21Z might run via Fostoria however if you are out be careful. Expect reroutes on traffic. 24M was rerouted via Bellevue to Youngstown Line. Michael Fair Royal Oak, MI Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/01/20 11:31 by bath_wildcat. Seems to me like it's more newsworthy when it actually makes it to Binghamton in one piece without issue...

One way to get people to read a thread, no matter the source, use major in the title. If it were say 30 - 35 or more cars, that would be a major derailment. This is good... you should win TO for the day. Good news is it looks like the signal bungalow and PTC antenna were spared - maybe just one home signal and track damage as casualties for NS. Shouldn't take too long to shove the wreck aside and get track back in place. These crews deserve a lot of credit for getting the clearing job done. Posted from Android Date: 12/01/20 16:13 Re: Major NS derailment Amherst, Ohio Author: farmer Retired_Chief Wrote:

Closer to 36 more than likely. Lots of finger pointing needs to be done first. Posted from iPhone Date: 12/01/20 16:42 Re: Major NS derailment Amherst, Ohio Author: ALCO630 EL-SD45-3632 Wrote:

Posted from iPhone Doug Wetherhold Macungie, PA Date: 12/01/20 16:54 Re: Major NS derailment Amherst, Ohio Author: NKP-PRR With 6-8 inches of wet/thick snow, two mains blocked and Hulcher and Corman all over the place I don’t think it’s out of the realm of major. Especially since this line is pretty busy.
The guy is passing on rail related info so let’s shot him down right away...typical TO. Thanks Mike, appreciate the post. This happened at the CP and the mid train DPU is about 6 cars ahead of the pileup. Broken rail? Bad wheel? Pick the switch? For Amherst, this is pretty major. Posted from Android Date: 12/01/20 17:06 Re: Major NS derailment Amherst, Ohio Author: dcfbalcoS1 One should realize if the wreck is not really all that much, one can remove the word 'major' and use something lesser or nothing at all. Then as some say, if its in a really busy place, one can choose to use the word 'major' on the clean up. Mainly too many haven't the sense to know when and everything these days has to be jacked up into horrendous at least. Could have just said they had a derailment, no not enough fright in that. Bring on the tabloid writers to get things in a frenzy.

Just check it out before you believe some group claims major on the net. I had a boring day of monitoring high school kids doing online testing and was checking the Cleveland media frequently after your post. Took them a while but they eventually reported it. Seems like the snow today (really, snow in Cleveland? ) was the main focus of the local media. Steve B. Date: 12/01/20 18:06 Re: Major NS derailment Amherst, Ohio Author: halfmoonharold The NKP detours are making a zigzag move in Cleveland. Vermilion to Cloggsville, then over to Rockport and out to the Chicago Line at Max (or reverse). Yard jobs are assisting. In the past the Youngstown Line was used for these kind of moves.
