Trains, Bridges and a Boat in Cleveland
Author: RuleG

In Fall 2019, I attended a professional meeting in Cleveland.  I returned to Cleveland a few months later in February 2020 to meet up with a friend and his friends for the Kurentovanje, the Slovenian Festival.  I had time for railfanning on both trips and great weather.  The second trip would be my last out of town trip before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

The first photo was taken in October 2019 of a NS freight traversing a lift bridge over the Cuyahoga River.

The second photo shows a westbound NS freight pulled by DC to AC Conversion locomotive 1800 meeting an eastbound freight on the same bridge.  This photo was taken October 2020.

The third and fourth photos are of a Flats Industrial Railroad SW1500 in its namesake district.

In addition to being a railroad enthusiast, I am also a bit of boat nerd.  The fifth photo is of an older style laker, the Alpena, on the Cuyahoga River in the Flats.

As an aside, beer produced by Collision Bend Brewing.  Collision Bend presumably refers to a tight bend in the river.

Thank you for looking.

So,
Cool post! I've watched the webcam of that bridge. Not a boat friendly span. As not very many trains use the span you would think NS could work out a plan? Maybe they have?

Nice photos from some of my home turf. Shooters is a great place to hang out. The Alpena, the oldest operating lake freighter these days, just got in yesterday for her winter layup. She'll spend the winter right where you shot her.

I had no problems.  The photo was taken from the parking lot for Shooters (bar/restaurant).

That's a terrific photo of Alpena, who is going on an impressive 79 years of age, having been launched February 28, 1942.
