Eastern Railroad Discussion > Major NS Derailment - Ripon, WV

It has just been reported that NS 16T has derailed 18-20 cars near Ripon, WV on the NS H-Line.  Ripon is north of Berryville, VA and south of Charles Town, WV. No further details available.

16T is a northbound manifest train that often has dp power.   The picture below was taken of 16T crossing the Potomac River at Shepherdstown, WV on October 22, 2015

18 to 20 cars does not sound to major unless it is HAZMAT or on a bridge.

So the photo has nothing to do with the derailment?

some detours going west out of Harrisburg 

201 and 203 are 2 that may have already departed

279/aka 211 is  in between 203 and 201, this train took a big hit in the Harrisburg area.  First, some empties had to be rearranged because there was too much tonnage behind them according to the special instructions for trains ascending the grade west of Altoona. In addition, a service truck had to meet the train to work on malfunctioning cab signals.

By the looks of the video, they shouild have a hole.....and trains running by 11:59pm tonight

What is the probable rerouting path of 203 & 211?

Any derailment can be major depending on your perspective and how close you happen to be to the incident when things go in the dirt.

A reply to DLM:

So yes, a picture taken more than five years ago has NOTHING to do with the derailment this morning.  DUH !   And another yes ...... 18-20 cars derailing on a busy single-track main is "MAJOR" even though I didn't capitalize major in the title..

Line is open now with a 10mph speed restriction.

The 5 + year old photo should be on the N&H board. Eastern board is for current events, like this derailment, not the photo. BTW, nice photo.
