Eastern Railroad Discussion > Is this utilized in on other railroads?Date: 02/18/21 09:33 Is this utilized in on other railroads? Author: wabash2800 CNâs Autonomous Track Inspection Program | cn.ca
I am posting this here at the risk of giving the Precision Railroading folks ideas and eliminating special geometry trains. But I'm sure they already know about what CN is doing and are watching anyway. It's a freight car that tests track geometry and can be placed anywhere in a freight train (or passenger train?) from what I understand. Perhaps there are pros and cons and its application is limited? Victor A. Baird http://www.erstwhilepublications.com Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 02/18/21 10:14 by wabash2800. While not as thorough as a RFD truck or Geometry car, it does work quite well. Date: 02/18/21 09:36 Re: Is this utilized in the USA? Author: mttrainman1 My foggy recollection was that I saw a boxcar stenciled with this on csx in MA years ago.

Author: MP403 CN has eight automated track inspection cars, with two more on the way. They run in revenue service, increasing the frequency of track inspection 17 times, picking up far more defects than hi-rail inspections, and eliminating the service impacts and safety risks that come from having as many hi-rail trucks out on the main line. Other railroads are running similar cars.

Actually, the railroads claim that they will turn "finders" into "fixers," which they say they want to apply to both track inspectors and car inspectors. Car inspector jobs are ultimately vulnerable to the new inspection portals, if you believe the hype. Date: 02/19/21 19:14 Re: Is this utilized in on other railroads?
