Sun & Snow - D&H Land
Author: train1275

Sunday February 21, 2021

A sunny day with snow scenery in Upsate New York. I guess we should have gone north as the word is 30T "broke down" and 22K had to pull them back to Delanson.
Not sure of the details with all that, just the rumor that floated down to the Valley here. In any event at 6:21pm there has been no 30T, nor any sign of the reliable 16R.

So as to the morning action here along the Susquehanna:

1. 22K rips up along the Susquehanna at Otego with NS 6957, 9646 and 6983. The first two units went south yesterday on 30T.

2. 22K now rounds the bend at Pony Farm about to make the meet with 23K at Oneonta.

3. Seems there has been more and more piggyback traffic of late, or maybe I just had not noticed it.

4. The 23K comes out of Oneonta with NS 6971 and 6951 with the ice covered rock cut as a background at Pony Farm.

5. Here is the 23K passing through Unadilla, NY about to duck under the Route 7 overpass.

6. 23K in a glint of light through the dark shadows of the tunnel of trees between Sidney and Bainbridge.

7. 23K further south, just north of Afton near MP 585 with the snow kicking up.

8. A look at the power going away.

9. Piggybacks on the rear end, bound for Binghamton.

And that is it for this weekend. Good luck to the 30T and 16R, wherever you are !

Your usual great D&H coverage.  I know that sunny days in Central New York (especially in winter) are few and far between after living there for almost 4 years and visiting just about all of my life. You took advantage of this one.

Image 5 grabbed my attention. I don't usually pick favorites but that shot with the bridge beam, I like with the overall composition. You could have zoomed to just the train or Photoshopped out the bridge but in my eyes this is a great image. Trains on the planet Earth with all the distractions around it.
Thanks for your Wintry NY posts.

I really enjoy this series of photos as I always liked the D&H.  Funny I still think of the D&H as synonymous with RS3s!

I know, right!
I hear there is a 4000 or 4100 series engine leading and my mind pictures a lightening stripe RS-3 and the heart skips half a beat. Sometimes too with a 7600, I'm thinking a new GP39-2.

You took the words out of my mouth! There’s something special about shot 5, I really like it!
