UpdateAt approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2021, Norfolk Southern train I0W/21 derailed at Newport, Pennsylvania, approximately 25 miles northwest of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The derailed equipment has now been cleared from both main lines. One main line is estimated to be returned to service at 10:00 p.m., February 23. The other main line is expected to be returned to service late morning, Wednesday, February 24. Customers with traffic moving between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg should anticipate a delay of 24 to 48 hours. NS will provide updates as additional information becomes available..." A few eastbound trains descended Horseshoe Curve presumably in anticipation of the re-opening of the line (plus there were 2-3 light helper moves):
Interestingly a Sperry Rail Car ran up and down the Curve covering all three tracks during the lull in traffic last night - wonder if this was the first time ever that Sperry was able to test all tracks in a 4 hour window?
