Maryland & Delaware Delivers the Goods

Railroading the old fashioned way .......... serving the customer no matter what. PSR here equals Pretty Smart Railroading. Caught this everyday move rolling through Sudlersville, MD with a hot car for Nutrien in Carville. 1202 is an ex Conrail RS3M - one of three still active on the MDDE roster.

Enjoy !

Thanks for the information and update on the Maryland & Delaware Railroad.  It's amazing how the smaller railroads go out of their way to take care of customers.

Sudlersville is the epitome of Eastern Shore, MD life.  It's a small town sorrounded by agriculture with some pretty architecture and history.  There's a statue in town to remember one of it's famous natives, baseball player Jimmie Foxx.  Nice photo!

That's a very representative DelMarVa shot! Thanks.
Reminds me of a photo of a Canadian crew delivering a single boxcar on a remote branch somewhere in Canada. This was not long after the US moved to 2-3 person train crews and retired the caboose. It was shown as how Canada lagged behind the US in labor laws and relations at that time and why the one car moves were killing off the Canadian branch lines. Point was, theCanadian roads had to use a full 5 person crew and a caboose to move a single car, to wit, all five persons were visible in the photo. Extremely inefficient cost wise.
The short lines and some regionals (R&N comes to mind) have a leg up on hot car and one car deliveries.
Go
