A driver went around the gates this am at a Cleveland crossing and did not turn out well.

CLEVELAND — Authorities say one person has died following an early morning crash between a vehicle and a Norfolk Southern  train. The situation happened around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday at a railroad crossing on London Road just north of Euclid Avenue in Cleveland.Authorities tell 3News the crossing gates were down when the driver attempted to cross the tracks. The driver, identified as a 48-yer-old man, was reported dead at the scene, according to first responders. Authorities say the train, which was traveling 40 mph, was carrying more than 900,000 tons.

It's modern-day Norfolk Southern; I fully believe it was a 900,000-ton train...

They make em that long and heavy to target drivers who misbehave...

While occasionally, you may see a minor correction addressed by the news media, but it is now crystal clear that most media doesn't really care about facts if they have a story to tell.

Somebody must have caught it, because they revised the story and dropped the 900,000 ton phrase.

Given that the error was corrected, it is not "crystal clear" that "most media" does not really care about facts.  However, nice job of making a silly generalization which slams the professionalism of reporter who posted in this thread.

The most bothersome things about this (besides the fatality) is that with these monster trains tying up crossings for lengthy time periods just to pass, more drivers will be tempted to go around gates.  An engineer friend told me just yesterday the tonnage train he was on was moving so slowly that he had a crossing tied up for 10 minutes. Even worse is that he asked to put a second engine on line to increase their speed and was told no.  He was moving at  8 mph struggling to get up a long grade.  He and his conductor saw a car pull up to the crossing and remarked to each other about how screwed that driver would be.  They set their distance counter and when the rear car cleared, 10 minutes had gone by.  This is modern day NS.  The public be damned.  

NS had been the best run eastern road.  But with PSR and the empty suit Squires in charge no more.
CSX is actually improving and I hope eating NS' lunch.
