CSX James River Sub images
Author: mully

The CSX James River sub between Clifton Forge Va and Richmond offers some great views as it follows the James River but some locations are difficult or just not accessible at all.  It also doesn't help that CSX does not use ATCS and with the terrain radio reception can be difficult so its back to old school rail fanning of checking signals, using a scanner and sometimes just waiting or getting lucky.   Lynchburg Va can be a good spot to wait and pass the time because the yard is very easy to view and there is usually switching going on and a defect detector just west of town.

Pic 1.......EB coal drag just east of the yard at Kelly

Pic 2.....EB Grain train passing by the yard.  I was very suprised and happy to see a SD70MAC and a SD40-2 leading

Pic 3.....A Loram Ballast cleaner heading west by the yard

Enjoy
