Deshler, Ohio traffic
Author: P

Sometimes while working from home, I'll put on one of the live Virtual Railcameras on my PC.

Occasionally, it's the Deshler camera.  I believe the single track line is the ex B&O Toledo sub from Cincinnati to Detroit, correct?  The double track line is the main from Chicago - east.  While I thought the Toledo sub was a busy line, I rarely see any trains cross the diamonds on that line.   What gives?

Most traffic takes the connection tracks.

Cincinnati to Toledo. (I believe the name changes to something else somewhere south of Dayton, however. New River Junction, perhaps?

Most of the Toledo Sub traffic goes to/from the B&O main at Deshler. There are only a handful of regular trains on the Toledo Sub via Tontogany and Perrysburg, including Q510, Q511, and the H761 ore trains. There may also be Q506/Q507 unless those have been PSR-combined into Q510/Q511.

The CSX Toledo Sub goes north and south from Toledo to Cincinnati, part i
Of the CSX Louisville Division, or thats what it was when I grew up around MP 140.3 just south of Columbus Grove at North Cairo. CG Tower on here could better explain it than I could.

The two main lines are the CSX Garrett and Willard Subs, and I recall some time ago someone said that the diamonds are where one sub ends and the other begins, but I'm not too sure about that now with PSR in effect.

This thread seems as good a place as any to ask:

What are the daily train counts on the Toledo Sub between Deshler and Lima and does anyone have a list of usual symbols and any sense for "norma" traffic patterns to look for? Also, what days does the IORY normally run on the trackage rights piece through Ottawa?

Thanks.

506 507 510 511 H761 is the ore train both loaded and empty north of Lima. Also D743 local is about it north of the diamonds at this time
Along with grain trains to and from Custar. 200 and N803 E803 are rare moves via the northwest transfer. Add 208 209 560 561 via the southeast transfer. 350 351 via the southwest transfer. Coal fertilizer and grain trains can be seen using the transfers along with crossing the diamond.
I&O uses the loop at Ottawa due to PTC. Usually in each direction daily except Saturday and Sunday. I&O may possibly send yard job from Lima to work industries at Ottawa.
All signals in town. Along with north Deshler to Deshler interlocking at the reservoir are controlled by the IP dispatcher. Two miles of the north south line belong to the Willard sub through town

There are record pages of trains thru Deshler and adjoining Fostoria.
The info and links are in the information section below the feed. It's simple
to scroll down and find those links and other info. There is very verbose activity
tracking CSX trains. There are further mentions often in the chat for same.

The south terminus of the Toledo Sub is at Butler Street in downtown Hamilton, Ohio.  The line south of Butler Street is part of the Cincinnati Terminal Sub.

Also the K597/K596 Middletown to Detroit coil/slab steel trains use the SE transfer about daily.

I am not sure why you would think PSR has anything to do with it.   The dividing line between the two subs are the EAS signals at West Deshler.

Why would it take the transfer track if the train travels between Middletown and Detroit? Wouldn't it just go straight through?
