Out and about and happened on a few trains on the former Big Four at Wellington, OH which is Southwest of Cleveland. The Big Four was actually the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway and became part of the New York Central in 1906. It eventually became a part of Penn Central and Conrail. At the Conrail split up this portion went to the CSX. Here in Wellington it crosses the Brewster - Bellevue tracks of the Wheeling & Lake Erie and in times past Wheeling freights had operating rights from Cleveland to here over Big Four.

Another dark, very dark day and cut the picture taking short, just too hard to get anything with this much cloud cover.

1. -3. A westbound comes through town with CSX 852, 7800, 7920, 7813, 9030 and DPU 781. Last photo shows the train crossing the Wheeling & Lake Erie diamond.

4. - 5. A nice little display / shelter in the Wellington park acknowledging the past railroad heritage.

6. Another westbound hot on the tail of the first one. This guy has CSX 5342 and 411 as power approaching the Route 18 crossing.

7. Coming across the crossing with the old freight station as a back drop (or maybe depot I am not sure).

8. - 9. Down at the W&LE diamond the tail end of the westbound meets an eastbound with CSX 3412 and DPU 788 as power.

10. - 11.

On the way home we caught two NS freights at Coen Road just west of Vermilion on the former LS&MS (Chicago Line). The 310 comes east with NS 4179 and 4115 as power and the 21Q goes west with NS 4490, 4066 and 4062 providing the muscle.

  When I lived in Akron in the late 1950s, I recall taking a train from Cincinnati to Wellington in order to ger home from meetings
in Cincinnati.  I am glad that the depot is still there.  If Cleveland to Columbus to Cincinnati passenger service is restored in
the interests of reducing carbon omission, will passenger trains once again pause for clients in Wellington?

Nice , I didn't know that CSX made Wellington a Quiet zone! When did that happen? I haven't been to Wellington in a few years!
