Sun and Lake Haze in Lake Erie Land
Author: train1275

Thursday January 13, 2022

We are still seeing a good bit of foreign power running through North Central Ohio making it colorful in these drab winter days.
A little sun peeking out today, chill air with a breeze numbing the fingers and in the afternoon some pretty heavy lake haze.

1. Train 66E, crude, comes east rumbling across the Vermilion River in Vermilion, OH with NS 9670, BNSF 6778 and NS 9808.

2. Next up was the 16G, a manifest that runs Clearing Yard Chicago to Conway in Pittsburgh. NS 7636 and a nice bright clean CN 8884 lead the tonnage east with a green BN hopper first out. This train carries a considerable number of BNSF cars

3. After lunch a catch of the daily Train 316 that goes the Nickel Plate route from Bellevue, once the citadel of NKP super power steam, to Conneaut, Buffalo and ending up in Binghamton, NY. Today it only had a single unit and wasn't running very fast as it rounded the bend alongside Beaver Park Marina just east of Lorain, Ohio in some pretty heavy lake fog creating a rather pastel effect. NS 8160 was the power.

4. A look at the NS 8160 as it swings in closer on Train 316 at Beaver Park Marina crossing east of Lorain, OH

5. - 6.  The 21Q about "on que" comes through downtown Vermilion passing a Signal Gang out working today. Power is NS 7696, 9947 and 9861. The 21Q is a Harrisburg, PA - 47th Street Chicago Intermodal. The depot seen at far right in photo 5 was the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern depot built in 1879, now belonging to St. Mary's Church.

Nice bunch, haze can be your friend if the sun angle is harsh...

Good bunch!

Who owns the land under the railroad bridge in Vermilion?  Any way you can get those two pesky trees cut down?  It would really open up the view!!

I agree, they are a pain.
NS probably owns that bit of property.
