As of 12/31 is was at Pitcairn yard awaiting to be moved to Altoona. Should be there by now. Won't have an update for quite a while I'd imagine.

Doubt it’s in Altoona yet. Would have to think that someone would have seen it pass the railcam at the HSC and reported it’s movement.

So whats the big thing about this engine? Just need to see the damage on it? It will be Years till it's repaired. There are at least 5+ engines with damage at Altoona that have been there for so long that haven't been touched.

How do you know this locomotive will not be repaired for “years”? Is that a factual statement or just your opinion? I believe the “big thing” is this locomotive has a special paint scheme on it and people are interested to know it’s fate. It is a “heritage locomotive” painted in Southern railway colors. You are aware that locomotives are not repaired or rebuilt in order they are damaged and such aren’t you? There are many different decisions that come into play on which locomotives get repaired or rebuilt and when.

NS 4001, an engine with a “big thing special paint” derailed and ended on on its side in 2017. It was rebuilt and released in mid 2020 if I remember correctly. So yes it will be years. 50/50 chance on if it comes out green in my opinion.

It will take some time no doubt to repair and NS certainly has a lot of other problems they need to address, focus on and fix besides a heritage painted locomotive. My point is nobody on this thread so far has any definitive, confirmed actual knowledge of what the plans are for this locomotive. So unless you work for NS and make the actual decisions about this said locomotive you don’t have any facts other than your opinion that it will take years to repair. If it even does get repaired. It could be retired, parted out, scrapped in place but by god we got opinions really based on nothing but the flavor of the day. I am always amazed at the arm chair quarterbacking and nastiness displayed by so called railroad enthusiasts who really don’t have any idea what it takes to run and manage a railroad.

NS LIKES their AC power. So, I can say with a fair amount of confidence that the end result will be similar to 4001....

Anyone want to debate the NFL Playoffs next??....:<)

Who you got in the big game? KC & GB? 😁

I don’t doubt that they like AC power. But there sure are a number of them sitting around JBS at the moment. Some have been sitting there for several months, whatever the reason. Assuming the 8099 will get repaired, clearly it will be a long time. Years is probably a reasonable assumption based on prior observations with wreck repairs & current observations of what is sitting dormant for so long. Not something to really get all that worked up about, is it?

I guess I should have been more specific. With the exception of the ACEs, they like GE AC power....

I’m surprised nobody is demanding that NS repair it immediately so it can be either put back on the road, or sent to a museum.

Funny, it seems to me that you're the only one being nasty in this thread thus far...

Will that is certainly your opinion that you are entitled to have. My opinion is that I am not being nasty, but simply asking if some of these statements being posted on here are facts or just simply opinions not based on anything except somebody’s personal view, expectations, a rumor, or what they think should or will happen. If asking a direct question about being factual is being nasty then oh well…. I forgot it is 2022 so I will try to be a little more sensitive to meet everyone’s sensitivity meter. And by the way I see nothing “funny” about being nasty. Your post really has nothing productive or any real substance behind it other than you trying to start a war of words based on nothing but your opinion.

It gets repaired when it gets repaired... Nobody's hiding any inside info; I'm sure not even NS knows... In the meantime, take about 3-4 minutes to untangle your britches... It's just a green GEVO, life will go on...
