Author: ctillnc There is some underlying truth, but this article goes way overboard. Some people have been angry ever since LORAN-C was discontinued and are pushing for money to fund eLORAN deployment. The Putin angle is just a ploy to get Congress to spend money.

Author: ctillnc Yes, and anything that happens to GPS will happen to the Russian counterpart (GLONASS) too. And China's BeiDou. And Europe's Galileo. And India's NavIC. All basically the same.
Date: 04/14/22 22:21 Re: GPS a Potential Weakness, including for Transportation? Author: K3HX Submarines navigate quite well absent GPS. Last I heard, the Navy and Coasties
still are capable of navigating with astronomy but not the hot setup for a cruise missle. Inertial navigation is remarkably good. Nearly 60 years ago the Army had come up with an anti-mortar system that could track incoming rounds and send one back to the point of origin. I suspect technology has advanced such that modern weapons systems are less dependent on GPS. Jamming emitters are pretty easy to locate and destroy. The jamming signal does not travel well and has a limited range of effectiveness. Be Well, Tim Colbert K3HX USAF '66-70. Author: Drknow What the OP is saying is the over reliance on GPS could come back to bite the world in the ass if something happened to the system.
