On this date in 1861 Fort Sumpter fell to the Confederates at the start of the Civil War

Rainy today but warm. Yesterday was beautiful and sunny and I got nothing sitting trackside for four hours. Today they are hammering them through like street cars on acid.

Went out for a bit late morning and got a few shots but the light and the rain, even though it was not heavy, were giving me fits. So back home and just listening to them blast through one after the other. 

1. Had a heads up this ethanol Train 6E4 had CN's so I wanted to shoot it. He had CN 2315 and 2305 as power, which kind of makes my heart skip a beat as in my heyday CN 2300's were M636's !  Alas, not today. 

2. Train 206 was out there and the plan was for him to take the Nickel Plate. A tamper was also out there working, and tied up by GC west of town as 206 came by near Haber Road. Power is NS 1000 and BNSF 6878. Lighting and rain makes things look pastel.

3. Here is one for TO member ns1000 if he is out there looking at this .... NS 1000 on Train 206 east heading into town.

4. A quick going away shot of the 206 from Haber Road.

5. Back into town on the Chicago Line we catch the 20Q with the Central of Georgia heritage unit, NS 8101 paired with UP 8733.

6. Then NS 8169 and 4419 bring the 572 coal train west.

7. Even though it is wet and damp, there is still coal dust blowing in the wind.

8. & 9. Train 26E rolls east with NS 4241, 9697 and 1020 past the former LS&MS depot.

10. And now the last one before lunch and calling it a day, for now, is Train 21Z  with NS 4382 and 4305.

I was out running errands this morning and was stopped at a crossing by the CN-powered ethanol train.  I wonder if the crude oil trains are running again?

An interesting difference in NS units.
NS #1000 is outfitted fabricated trucks like those used on T4 units.
NS #1020 is outfitted with cast trucks like those regularly used on SD70ACe's.

NS 1000 has had those Tier IV trucks since march of 2016 as a test for them before the Tier IV trucks were released.
