Eastern Railroad Discussion > Jonesborough, TNDate: 05/14/22 15:35 Jonesborough, TN Author: Railfan4Christ My wife and I will be in Jonesborough, TN on Memorial Day. Not too familiar with the area, I know there is the museum and Virtual Railfan cam there, is there anything interesting rail-related I will be able to see around the area, say 1-2 hour drive from there? How much rail traffic goes through Jonesborough? Thanks in advance for the replies.
Tom Date: 05/14/22 15:57 Re: Jonesborough, TN Author: Asheville_G Jonesborough is located on the “A” line from Bristol to Knoxville (and Chattanooga)
It sees probably 8-12 moves per 24 hours. 11Z, 12Z, 22A, 23G, 201, 202, 126, 127 are some of the trains through town. Copper Creek Trestle on the former Clinchfield is probably an hour from there, near Clinchport, VA. The Clinchfield also crosses over the “A” line (the line through Jonesborough) on the west side of Johnson City. It’s very accessible, road right next to it. Bulls Gap is about an 45 minutes west of Jonesborough (A line junctions with the Appalachia District) although these days the majority of traffic is on the A-Line. Grady McKinley Asheville, NC.
