It's just a pimple...
Author: bigsavage

As grades go on the former Western Maryland Rwy., Rocky Ridge in rural Frederick County, MD. was a shortie; just 2 miles or less on either side.
Eastbound tonnage had a 1.28% climb, and westbound faced  a 1.37% climb up from the Monocacy River.
Today the Maryland Midland has a westbound train of 38 cement loads, 10,000 hp on the head end will be at full throttle until passing the summit under the MD76 overpass, 418 ft. above sea level. The mid-morning glare is at the end of the long cut, hand-dug in 1870-72 as part of the WM's expansion to Hagerstown.

Thanks once again Big Savage for your photos and video of the former Western Maryland Railway main line through Rocky Ridge.  That is a scenic part of the line for sure and we always enjoyed riding through there on the WM in the good-ole-days.

Great video - the best part about it is the audio.  It captures rural railfanning very well - the quiet with the birds singing, then the sound of the train as it approaches getting louder and the sound of the cars on the jointed rail, then back to quiet.  Well done!
