Trains....
C788-14 (200 loads, 3+3 DP) eastbound at Pinto, MD. These 200 car monsters come east as two separate 100 car drags with power set up in 2+1 configuration. At Keyser,WV the DP units are re-positioned and the two trains are combined into a single train for the remainder of their trip.

E750-14 (200 empty Hoppers, 6 units) westbound at Bowling Green, MD. passing the C788-14 waiting their turn into the Cumberland, MD Terminal.

Due to a recent derailment, these large trains are split before going west over the mountains. At Keyser, they will be split into two separate 100 car trains with 3 units each.

The second crew either rides the power out of Cumberland to Keyser or will take a taxi from the caller's to Keyser.

The Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), in conjunction with the Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation (DAMF), brought a Warbird Showcase to the Cumberland MD Airport Saturday and Sunday, the 18 & 19 June.

2) #1309 at the Cumberland, MD station. The speeder is used to haul the Rail Bikes back to Frostburg after the Steam Train has departed west.

2) M317-17 westbound at Dawson, MD. They would make a 44 car tonnage reduction set out before continuing west over the mountains.

Tim,
Thank you for taking the time to collect so many interesting images and posting them. I caught one of those 200 car coal loads going past the Shenandoah Jct Cam. They block the road crossing for a substantial amount of time. but then again the NS daily monster through our town often runs 175-200 cars and does the same.

Tom,

Above Bloomington, MD on 17-Mile Grade between Warnicks Curve and Crab-tree Crossing westbound. 10 empty hoppers took a string line off the tracks in a curve when the DP units "Shutdown" and the head-end kept on the pull. I've also heard a version that Trip Optimizer was to blame.

Very nice coverage. I enjoyed the train & airplane photos. The aircraft in photo #6 is a Grumman TBF Avenger torpedo bomber.The other Aircraft is a B-25 Mitchell bomber.

B-25 was the bomber type that took off from the aircraft carrier Hornet in April 0f 1942 and flew 600 miles to bomb Tokyo and other Japanese cities.

Is this one crew that makes the entire run from Grafton to Cumberland, but also has to stop along the way to put these trains together (including combining power and DPU placement), or even have to wait for the second section to catch up at Keyser?  I'm not familiar with this territory, but it seems like these trains would die a lot on hours of service before making the end of their runs.  Almost like the entire mainline between Grafton and Cumberland is one big yard, trains splitting/combining/setting out/picking up all over the place.

The crew district is Grafton, WV to Cumberland, MD. for "normal" traffic.
With the doubled trains, the 1st. section will arrive at Keyser, WV and the crew will move their DP unit from 50 cars deep to the headend of their train and then tie their train down usually on main #2 west of the EAS at Keyser. That crew will taxi to Cumberland to mark off.
The 2nd section will arrive on main #1 and re-position their DP unit from the middle of their train to their headend, then they will double their train to the 1st. section and take the combined train east to the Cumberland, MD terminal. 
It can take crews 90 minutes or more to re-position their DP unit and double up the trains.
Re-crews are common.... Hearing a C999 or C998 are a indication that a train has been re-crewed or rescued ......
