Another PSR Failure
Author: RDG630

NS 1067, the Reading Heritage unit is still sitting at Clark’s Ferry on the Buffalo Line waiting to get into Enola with another 11Z sitting ahead of it. It arrived there yesterday afternoon. Who does NS think they are fooling with this horrible service? PSR is €*¥<.

As long as the Hedge Fund Owners are happy with the money coming in and the Bean Counters stay happy with the minimum of spending, that's all that counts.  Forget service, that costs money.

I thought a part part of PSR was supposed to be better utilization of assets.  Last time I checked, trains sitting still aren't making any money.

Same thing is happening on the Port Road with 36A Dale.  They are "leap-frogging" to avoid congestion in Enola. The entire indusrty is circling the drain about to go down into the abyss.

You don't understand. We don't want to give you better service. We want you to go away.

Let's see if I have this right:
Don't want to haul intermodal, too low of margins.
Don't want priority service, costs too much to provide.
Don't want to haul ag products, too seasonal.
Don't want to haul mineral traffic, too low profit.
Don't want boxcar traffic, too much work.
OK, I'll bite Class One railroads, who DO you really want for customers?

Pisser Bill, mentor of the infamous EHH at the BN.  Everyone thinks Uncle Ewing came up with PSR - he was just passing one what he learned from Bill.

Anyway, the Reading unit has been sitting for day?  Amateurs.  Call me when its been sitting for SIX days...like the 196 parked in Burnside KY since the 25th....with a cut of cars for one of my customers who was promised by NS they would see this week.  Just another day on the railroad...

Someone who will pay a lot and expect nothing in return.

Im just waiting for the heart felt plea for free money from the Govt, to "clean up this mess"  They will blame it on Covid and gas prices,
and take the money and pocket it into retirement, and leave the mess for someone else.

And, unfortunately, the govt is full of saps, who will believe anything, and dont have the guts to say..."U made this mess..clean it up, or we will break up your monopoly in to smaller manageable pieces. "    Too busy counting the dirty political money they get from the RR's top brass.

PSR or no PSR, they are short of crews right now.

And they are short of crews because of the insidious ways they treat their employees.  A hallmark of E Hunter Harrison's PSR was ''sweating the assets", ie abusing the assets to death.  It's just when they did this to employees, they started quitting in droves, and so "volla!", they are now short of crews!  So yes, it is PSR.

At a certain point since failure occurs so often it just becomes normal. If there's only 2 parked on the Buffalo Line they're doing pretty good!

If only there was another yard that half of the 11Z/12Z could run through and bypass Harrisburg entirely and reduce congestion in Enola. Maybe somewhere down around Allentown, that would only need 1 crew from Binghamton. If only...

Remember folks, this is the THIRD railroad that Ms. Sanborn has ****ed up completely.

Didn't Conrail remove several (many?) tracks at Enola back in the 1990s?

Couldn't be handled at Allentown anymore even if they could do that.

Well, if you find some of those, give me a heads up. The trucking firm I work for could ALWAYS use some customers we can ignore while we serve the 99.9% who DO.

I'd say it was already well on it's way to that BEORE she even got there.

A stopped train is a safe train. A stopped and tied down train burns less fuel and no crew costs.

...and extra bonus if it is all home road cars - no per diem charges.
