Eastern Railroad Discussion > Will anything run july 4th?

I saw several movements on csx with a coal train, M415, Amtrak 30, I135, M216, and a train playing peek a boo with csx 5355 leading. Will anything be running on july 4th on CSX or NS on the 4th of july?

Given how backed-up the railroads generally are these days, there should be trains to move if there are crews available to move them. 

What's the 4th of July? A holiday or something? I think we call it....Monday on the NS.

When I was at CSX Intermodal 2008-2015, they pretty much shut down the railroad for major holidays.  As an Amtrak passenger since 1975 or so, when I was riding an LD train on a holiday, we 'owned the road', as it were. 

But about 2010, give or take, Jacksonville 'discovered' they still had loads to be delivered, and customers still expecting them as if there wasn't a holiday.  So, after that, it was back to normal using Sunday schedules on the holidays for intermodal trains.  I don't know about freights, though.

and i am hearing stuff, Q371 and a westbound hopper train are calling signals going west, the coal is by point of rocks and M371 by wards (where ever that is). Maybe its work early and wave banners and watch fireworks later

A bit late to to party, but I went up to Toledo, Ohio for the day today.  NS was extremely busy throughout the day and CSX was fairly steady too.  No holiday feel about that area today.

Railroad employees are not alone.  Airline employees are working in tough conditions over the hioliday.
