Harrisburg, PA this morning (7/30)
Author: sscannella

Beautiful start to the last weekend of July...clear skies and lower humidity, and an interesting handful of trains between 08:30 and 12:30 around the Rockville Bridge area with interesting power.

First up for me curing west onto Rockville Bridge and heading toward Enola Yard on the other side of the river was M2Z with NS 3643 and BNSF 9374.

After M2Z cleared, 10K headed to the fuel pad with 3612, 7500, and 4227 as a "mid-train" DPU 117 cars deep, with just 5 autoracks trailing.  Makes you wonder what NS's rationale was for placing a DPU 5 cars from the rear.

15 minutes after 10K, ethanol train 64E with 4479 and CSX 5302, came across Rockville Bridge and down to the fuel pad alongside 10K on track 1

Westbound intermodal hotshot 21J got trackage west once 10K cleared CP-HARRISBURG, after a brief stop for fuel at the pad, it is seen from Linglestown Rd heading for Rockville Bridge with 4057 and UP 5323.

A short time after 21J, 21E also came west with another UP unit - 7490, sandwiched between 4493 and 4444.

After noon, 13R was ready to leave Enola with a somewhat shorter than normal 75 cars.

13R is profiled to run with a DPU, and the powers-that-be decided to make it a rear DPU for this run (at least the initial leg to Hagerstown) - 4235, 4497, 8062 on the rear

Does 13R usually add cars at Hagerstown?

Good stuff Sam! It’s been refreshing to see foreign powers again in NS land. I’ve notice a big uptick over the past couple of months.

In the first photo that is "some" home on the top of the moutain overlooking the river.  Only drawback I can think of would be a copper head snake or a winter time drive after a snow .  Tom Klinger

It's a railfan's home.  I believe the antenna / equipment for the Broadcastify feed for the Harrisburg Terminal is located there.  There's also a weather cam for one of the local TV stations, if I'm not mistaken.

thanks for the great images of trains in harrisburg pa. scannella, I would have liked to see 6K4 and 10K but i have been on vacation in the outer banks these past few days. It’s really hard to take a big family vacation like the one i am on for granted because i don’t know what is happening next year with family. I should be on vacation for the next 5-6 days before i return to see trains in the area again

Nice shots Sam. Makes me miss my home turf when looking at these shots. Thanks for sharing. Ben
