SD60E's on Doublestacks and Other Adventures - Lake Erie Land
Author: train1275

Tuesday August 2, 2022

On this date in 1943 PT 109 in command of Lt. (jg) John F. Kennedy was sunk in the Solomon Islands after a collison with Japanese Destroyer Amagiri.
PT 109 was equipped with 3 Packard V-12 1500hp M2500 engines.

And one year ago today I took my Railroad Retirement!

Ran some errands and met up with TO member zars over in Huron. Nice and sunny and warm today,

1. - 2.  The 21Q comes past Coen Road west of Vermilion with NS 8030, 1116 and UP 6613.

3. 11N, the autos then follows after a pick up at Fairlane Yard. His power is NS 8132 ..... but look close through the heat haze ......

4. The NS 8132 has reverse style number boards; black background with white numbers.

5. Then we have the 20E with NS 4045 and BNSF 6502.

6. While at Huron chatting with zars the 24M rolled through with NS 9750 and 4730.

7. - 9. On the way back home I spotted the L15 and waited a while at Joppa Road for him. He was stopped somewhere east towards CP 224 for while, but I do not know why. After waiting for an eternity in the hot sun he finally started moving west. This is the Sandusky to Maple Heights local that moves doublestacks and it is a treat to see the SD60E's on them. Maybe not so much for the crews though, Anyway, let's take in the sequence as he moves west around the sweeping curve just east of MP 226. His power is NS 6972 and 6996 and he is running west on Track 2.

10. And the going away shot at Joppa Road as the L15 heads towards Huron and Sandusky. The NS 6972 was built as NS SD60 # 6605 in February 1986  and rebuilt to SD60E in January 2015. The 6996 was built as NS 6684 in November 1990 and rebuilt to SD60E in February 2015.

And as I was posting this a while ago, I heard the 310 out there, so grabbed that also as he had the GECX 2029 (ET44AC Tier 4 demonstrator).
NS 4464, 9730 and GECX 2029.

Great bunch, nice way to celebrate a yrs worth of retirement. Also good to see those 60s still rolling but prefer the standard cab...

NS 8132 wrecked in head-on at Tennille, GA (2015-08-07); repaired at AMP Dansville, NY, released (2016-12).

Great pics.  I enjoyed running the SD60E's and liked their more comfortable layout.
