Monticello Railway Museum Railroad Days
Author: mtzctrain

This weekend, the MRM had it's railroad days. Being in Decatur, I'm only a half hour away, but this was the first year I've attended. My son (1.5 years old) and I went for half the day, and had a great time. The museum had a number of trains running constantly, plus smaller activities and food on the grounds. Couple that with the great weather, and it made for a great day!
There were a number of trains that were running today (I got video of all but the speeders):
   -Streamliner train
   -Freight Train
   -Mixed Train
   -Caboose Hop
   -Speeder Rides
Railroad days is continuing through tomorrow as well!
I will definitely be returning in future years!

Photos from the day:
1. MRM's somewhat new C&IM RS-1325 led the freight train today.
2. The Wabash F-Unit led a 3-car train of IC coaches for the Streamliner Train.
3. Southern 401 was powering the mixed train.

4. The museum's newest aquisition: an ex-IC SW-14 was on display in the shops area with the MILW switcher.
5. My son checking out the engineer seat of a unit in the display barn
6. My son & I in Monticello after we got off the Streamliner train. We decided to ride the caboose of the freight train back to the museum.

Thanks for looking!

Great stuff Caleb! Your boy looks like he’s a natural in the engineer’s seat!

They have some nice equipment there. Despite being 2,000 miles away, I made a small donation toward the RS-1325 project when they received it.
Have always been intrigued by that model.

Most people don't know that the RS-1325 is actually a result of GMO designs.  No.  Not Gulf, Mobile & Ohio.

Looking to break into the locomotive business, the scientists at Monsanto worked to splice genes from a late-model GP18 with an SW1200.  When the resulting hybrid only sold the two copies, Monsanto quietly disavowed all knowledge and let E.M.D. take credit for it.

Or so I heard.

You've given your son something he will remember his whole life.  Look forward to "when are we going back Daddy?"
That's how I got infected back in the early '40s.  My Dad was a Frisco engineer and I would nag my Mom mercilessly when he got out on a train to take me to see him come up the hill.

I sadly Monticello this year because my 11yr old son had soccer and baseball all weekend. He was pretty bummed since we've been going for the last several years. Hopefully next year our schedule works out better

Nice video! Also nice to see another IC caboose restored and operating. Fox River Trolley Museum has caboose 9648 in operation on their museum line which passes under the IC, now CN Freeport Sub in South Elgin IL

Monticello does a great job with kids. When I rode with my kids several years ago, the engineer let my kid oil a few places on the Southern #401
