Eastern Railroad Discussion > Strasburg RR Farm Neighbor loses barn to fireDate: 09/20/22 14:05 Strasburg RR Farm Neighbor loses barn to fire Author: bigsavage For the second time in 5 years, the Verdant View Farm, just east of the Strasburg RR property on Strasburg Road and Paradise Lane, has lost its barn to a fire.
Water supply was the main challenge for Strasburg VFD and other responding Lancaster County VFDs. While a family car was lost, and the farmhouse and garage suffered radiant heat damage, no animals were lost. The fire was visible on the Virtual Rail camera from about 12:05 a.m. on Monday, till knockdown of the fire about an hour later. This farm has a popular B&B, and the property has been used for Pete Lerro photo charters in recent years. I see more wet hay barn fires in the spring around me, but I guess someone stretching to try to get that last crop might cause it too. It was amazing at how quickly the area Mennonites helped that farmer rebuild, and I would bet that the Amish around Strasburg will do the same here. Thankfully for the Strasburg fire no people or animals were harmed. Dan Posted from iPhone |
