Interesting that in the second photo you can see former Hoboken Shore Railroad 44 tonner #700 - certainly the other extreme in railroading in Hoboken from the 3372!

The caboose looks like a style that might have been NYSW or M&E.

I was never in love with these things....Basically a U36C for passenger service.  F40's, GP-40P's seemed a much better choice for passenger service.....

But anything unusual that gets saved is a good  thing.

I worked on 3372 for a few years.  The 3372 was the best running loco in the fleet. As GF I always placed it on the Port Jarvis run. Cause there were few Conrail frights running at the time if rescue that train. George Peper was number 1 on the roster. Great guy.he all ways stoped in the engine house to say good morning. the 3352 was the dog always in the shop.

Not a GE fan, but as rare as U-boats have gotten, I'm all for any one that gets saved.

Based on my experience with older GE locos, which loaded and accelerated extremely slow, I can imagine these were dreadful passenger locos. I am wondering if there was something different with these specific locos that improved these traits. Anyone here with experience running these locos have any stories they can share?

Well the passenger version should have been geared for higher top speed...that would make startup even worse...but eventually...they would gather up their skirts and go....you will never break a knuckle with a u-boat! At least if you don it won't be the engine's fault!

When running good, they weren't all that bad.

HEP set-up was similar to the F-40's. Engine was notched up to power the HEP generator, so loading for traction was pretty quick.

Stations on the NJ Transit Morristown Line are pretty close together.  Maybe 2-3 miles apart after an 8 mile sprint from Hoboken to Newark Broad.  On the Boonton Line, a U34CH with 3-4 cars could move right along.
