Eastern Railroad Discussion > African Exports and Miss Phoebe Snow in Lake Erie LandDate: 09/21/22 19:01 African Exports and Miss Phoebe Snow in Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 Wednesday September 21, 2022
Vermilion, OH Hot and humid here in Lake Erie Land, but lots of action. Top of the list was Train 258 with a sad looking DL&W Heritage unit, and then four Wabtec / GE locos for Mozambique Africa among other sights. Shortly after 1pm we saw Train 054 go by the Berea webcam with four export locos on flat cars westbound. Hmmm, time to go down to the docks and hang out for 35 - 45 minutes for a picture. No problem. Well, not so fast, things were apparently bottled up with a 66X having PTC troubles and I don't know what else going on, but it was 2-1/2 hours later before the 054 made the 26 miles to get in front of the lens. In that time there were a flood of trains, too many to include all of them here. Here is a peek at the action. 1. Another two unit 11N works west on the autos, power is NS 1033 and 4353. Canadian Geese enjoy a cool swim in the Vermilion River. 2. Then the 1054 and 9443 come east on 28V. 3. Now the 66X who was having PTC trouble. He has NS 7309, CP 9739 and 9784. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 09/21/22 19:51 by train1275. Date: 09/21/22 19:06 Re: African Exports and Miss Phoebe Snow in Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 4. CP 9739 on the 66X adds a splash of red to the scene.
5. Followed by CP 9784. 6. Then comes the 258 east, (Kansas City - Rutherford Yard, PA) and what is that peeking out behind lead unit NS 4538 ? Date: 09/21/22 19:12 Re: African Exports and Miss Phoebe Snow in Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 7. - 8. A sad, tired looking NS 1074 Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Heritage Unit ! Miss Phoebe looks a little worse for wear today, exposing her 16-710 engine.
9. Finally, after 2-1/2 hours we hear the 054 get the signal at CP 219 to come west on Track 2 in order to take the connector to Bellevue. Here he comes with NS 9700 in charge leading the 3' 6" gage locos loaded on QTTX flats. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 09/21/22 19:35 by train1275. Date: 09/21/22 19:20 Re: African Exports and Miss Phoebe Snow in Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 10. The export units appear to be NACALA Logistics Wabtec / GE C30ACi's for the Nacala Logistics Corridor linking coal mines in Western Mozambique to the Port of Nacala in Malawi on the Indian Ocean. This info may or may not be correct, so if anyone has better info and details please chime in. I do not know where they are going after Bellevue other than to Africa. So in the train is Nacala Logistics 402, 401, 304 and 403, an N&W hopper brought up the markers.
11. Nacala Logistics 402 and 304. 12. Nacala Logistics 401. Date: 09/21/22 19:23 Re: African Exports and Miss Phoebe Snow in Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 13. A closer look at the 401.
14. And finally the Nacala Logistics 403. 15. Railfan photographer Tim Wakeman lenses Train 35N from the dock, with NS 3646 and 9801, as it heads west over the river. I have done the long waiting for so many varying railroad reasons, thanks for your patience today.
Gonut Date: 09/22/22 05:05 Re: African Exports and Miss Phoebe Snow in Lake Erie Land Author: thebluecomet What is interesting is the yellow showing through behind the peeling maroon and gray paint. When the EL repainted a unit, the entire unit received a coat of yellow paint with the maroon applied after masking, then the gray. Seems NS followed the same sequence.

https://allafrica.com/stories/202205050315.html What happens when a green/woke Government forces a company it controls to divest investments considered not PC. Vale invested US$13.1 billion in Mozambique (including the track taking a short cut through Malawi) and sold the lot for $US270 million. Pitty Vale's minor share holders who will have taken a haircut. Possibly less than the cost of the 85 BB40-9WM that were bundled into the sale? Purchaser is Vulcan Resources, a subsidiary of coal miner and open access rail operator Jindal. In turn Jindal is owned by a JV of Indian state owned steel producers. Can we assume that India is not woke and green? There are coal companies selling for one times earnings. Put simply, the company's share price is about what the company will earn this year.
