Passenger cars in Wapak isolated.
Author: howeld

Minor local Ohio news.

There have been two passenger cars sitting in Wapakonta, Oh for 30+ years. They have sat on the east side of town on the old T&OC spur track just east of State route 33 crossing.

Today the tracks crossing SR33 were severed to tie in a new lead track on the north side of 33 to keep switching moves from crossing the busy highway. The cars remain in their location but are now no longer connected to railroad network.

Older post about the cars.

Maybe Trainorders Member Wayne York who hales from Wapakoneta has more information? My understanding is that he also worked for city government (retired?)

I'm guessing that the new lead track will be between the highway and Rte 33? I'm also guessing the two subject cars are not of a major interest to whoever the current owners are or they would have been moved before the track was severed. If they even were aware of what was happening. It seems many privately owned cars owners have no notification of such actions.

I just used Google Street View. The view dated September, 2019 shows the cars as well as the disconnected track.

Photo is from Cementary Rd looking east a week ago before the connection was made.    The new track is in the background with a tamper sitting on it.   Cementary Rd was closed starting on the 26th for three days to allow the tracks to be connected.
