For a brief moment, U18B Quadruplets (Pickens)
Author: EL833

Made a stop at Anderson, SC to catch the Pickens and their orange U18B "Baby Boat" units. I use to see and photograph these a lot when they were SCL/SBD/CSX units operating in Florida. Next best thing to an Alco in my book, and considering these are the last ones running it's worth the time. All on 10-21-2022, in no particular order :

Anderson job along the line between downtown Anderson and their shop/main customer area.
The Anderson job waits next to some abandoned mills while the conductor walks up after picking up the NS interchange in Anderson.
The Belton job with a single U18B at Anderson.

And now the Quad part....after both the Anderson job and Belton job were finished they combined the 3 units for the short run to the shops. A lone U18B, the 9502, had been placed at the switch. The trio coupled on giving me a quad set of baby boats, although for a very short time. 10-21-2022 Anderson, SC

Interesting smokestack in your second photo. They don't make them like that anymore. Any close up photos Roger ?

Great photos, I'll have to check this out. What time of the day did all of this take place?

Thank you...and both jobs go on duty early and are generally done in the 1pm range. A good spot to start is the NS interchange in Anderson to catch the Belton job first.

We have a handful of square stacks left down here. Older than round stacks. Dozens and dozens of textile mills gone. That was Anderson Cotton Mill beside the U18s.

At this point the U18Bs are more rare than the Baldwins they replaced.
