Yesterday, Genesee Valley Transportation released their Alco Century #2409 from the Delaware Lackawanna Von Storch shops in the Green Ridge area of Scranton after more mechanical work and a complete body restoration and repainting into GVT's tastefully done corporate scheme. 

The engine was originally built in 1964 for service on Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Mexico (NdeM), but then rerouted to the Wabash, where it worked for years as B905 in trailing only position due to all the placards being in Spanish. It later worked on the Norfolk and Western as 3905, before seeing life as an industrial locomotive through lessor VLIX as 425. GVT purchased it in 2009, and it was finally made serviceable in April 2020 after an extensive rebuild. In September of 2020, WABASH lettering was applied to the body to celebrate its heritage, with the awareness that it would eventually be painted into GVT corporate colors.

First we see some views of it when it was stored for years by the DL's South Scranton shops, then from April 2020 after finally being completely rebuilt and released into general service. The third picture was taken in October of 2020 with the Wabash lettering applied as job PO75 was returning to Scranton on the former DL&W line through the Poconos.

The relabeling was done years ago by the N&W. It was planned by the Wabash but the merger occurred before it could be done. The units were given the 420 series numbers in anticipation of the canceled C&O-N&W merger.

I saw one leading a westbound D&H TOFC train in 1977 at Hornell, NY. Someone posted pictures of that day here on TO a few years ago.

I seem to recalling photographing one of these in Kansas City in 1964 and the had a "B" before the number.  Slides are long gone to Ebay.

Great photographic documentation of the journey for that Alco survivor.  Looks great in the standard D-L scheme now.
