Eastern Railroad Discussion > Virginian Unit Invades Lake Erie Land AgainDate: 03/15/23 17:23 Virginian Unit Invades Lake Erie Land Again Author: train1275 Wednesday March 15, 2023
Sunny and Seasonable On this date in 44BC Members of the Roman Senate Assassinated Julius Caesar - Beware the Ides of March Slow start to the day, but I think the camera is finally functioning. 1. The L15 has switched up power recently, and today he comes west into Huron, OH with NS 4328 and 1840. 2. A rare creature not normally seen here (CSX 96) leads Train 265, the old 23K at Huron, OH on the NS Chicago Line. BNSF 4696 is the trailing unit. 3. The BNSF 4696, trailing unit on the 265, with the ghetto grills or whatever they call them. I think that was the name given by the New Haven RR. Note the missing number board too. Edited 1 time(s). A Mark IV Tamper that had been working at CP 232 at Huron now travels east on Track 2.
5. The NS 1069 Virginian heritage unit came east on Monday on the 14N, and today it is eastbound on the 12N, probably did a quick Conway - Elkhart turn. Anyway, it once again invades Lake Erie Land. NS 4336 is the 2nd unit as they approach Vermilion Road in Vermilion, OH. 6. Lets enjoy the passing of the NS 1069, I rather like this scheme and enjoying seeing it go by. Edited 1 time(s). Date: 03/15/23 19:18 Re: Virginian Unit Invades Lake Erie Land Again Author: Gonut1 I'm wondering if the "Ghetto Grills" on 4696 are to prevent coal or rock loader damage. Nothing running on the NE Corridor has the grills today, although they still run through the same ghettos with the same ballast ammunition aplenty. Really odd to see these since Amtrak stopped installing them.
Wow! The Virginian's numberboards are awful! I could have done extremely better in high school way back in 1964. They are so bad I'd almost volunteer to paint decent ones and donate them. But NS being a multi-million if not billion dollar company, I don't think so. It's their image, not mine! Super interesting post all around. Glad to hear your camera is working. I eventually parked my DSLR after the batterries began failing and my "Son's hand-me-down" cell phone (Pixel P3 XL) produced sharper images! Go Edited 1 time(s).
