Beautiful 138 year old water tower along the Illinois Central in Kinmundy,Il.
This is between Centralia and Effingham.
The plaque says it all - amazing the area was still using it till 2000.

That's nifty. Thanks for sharing. There were only a couple of wooden ones out West that I know of.

No big deal, but the correct terminology in railroad talk is usually "Water Tank".

Excellent pictures and story; many thanks!  Imagine 830,000 pounds of water sitting up there.  Wow!
