Eastern Railroad Discussion > Today's, June 8 2024 Middletown & Hummelstown SpecialDate: 06/08/24 14:42 Today's, June 8 2024 Middletown & Hummelstown Special Author: ns2557 Today, msns2557 and myself spent around 1 and 1/2 hours in Middletown Pa to support a very worthwhile cause. The Annual Vickie's Angels Foundation Cancer Awareness Rides, who supports and helps Cancer Patients and their families in the greater Harrisburg Pa area. A wonderful Organization to help. We have a now 32 year old son who is a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed at age of 16 with a form of Leukemia. I am proud to say he is a Survivor. So when we found out that we would be in the area for this, we both knew it was the right thing to be part of.
The 1st shot is of the train, which the Middletown and Hummelstown RR provided for the trips. MIDH 2 a GE 65T had the honors. MIDH Car 368 and caboose 1987 were the means of transport for the riders. Here in this shot is the train after it's first trip of the day, which we both were on, after it arrived back at Hoffer Park in Middletown Pa. Shot 2. After we left the venue, we went over to near where the train stopped for the return trip. This is the Swatara Park Road or Fryes Grove as it's also known as the train heads north along the Sawtara Creek on ex RDG Tracks. Really nice ride, perhaps 10 mph for the 11 mile round trip which was scheduled to be ran every half hour from Middletown. Great way to spend a few dollars and time to enjoy the ride. Trip was also Sponsored by the Conrail Historical Society and this is one of their more popular things they are involved with as far as the General Public is concerned. Great day Thanks to all for everything from the Middletown and Hummelstown and the sponsors and esp Vickie's Angels. Stay well all. Do you have a better shot of that piece of equipment?

Ben ![]() Date: 06/08/24 17:08 Re: Today's, June 8 2024 Middletown & Hummelstown Special Author: CedarRapids The caboose is former Elgin, Joliet and Eastern 5xx built by International Car in 1956. I have not been able to determine the exact EJ&E number.

Very worthwhile organization to join with in fighting cancer. Before our son was diagnosed, I only had a small understanding of Cancer. Then I learned more than I would ever have thought. Sorry to hear of your loss. Together, all of us can do our part to make the journey thru the fight as smooth as possible for those who travel that path. Thank you and a tip of the hat to Elizabeth for her background info as well. jb Date: 06/08/24 19:35 Re: Today's, June 8 2024 Middletown & Hummelstown Special Author: Gonut1 Ben,
Thanks, It happened quickly and thankfully my sister didn't suffer long. Some years ago Mom went through 6 months before finally succombing to the evil. Just awful. I'm so glad to hear your son is a survivor! There are so many upbeat advertisements by Cancer Centers but unfortunately they just aren't all that successful. Perhaps someday? Gonut Date: 06/09/24 12:35 Re: Today's, June 8 2024 Middletown & Hummelstown Special Author: ns1000 There is hope.
Without going into a lot of detail, my wife was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. Two years later, she is still here and doing pretty well. |
