Eastern Railroad Discussion > A year's worth of farming and some trainsDate: 11/22/24 17:57 A year's worth of farming and some trains Author: CSX2605 Hope the mods are OK with this post. I made this video a few years ago and it is a year's worth of farming condensed into a 5:17 video with trains in 4 of the clips. There are clips of the potato operation as well as grain production clips and some irrigation action. The CSX CE&D sub passes through the farm property and hosts Chicago-Nashville traffic.
With Thanksgiving coming up and I look back on the farming year there is a lot to be thankful for including the fine folks I've met here on TO. Happy Thanksgiving! We use to raise wheat, as seen in one clip, but the market just is not there for wheat compared to the other grains. We'll let the farmers along the Santa Fe take care of the wheat. LOL! My farmer friends say they are "gamblers." And your farming backs up their statements.

john Date: 11/23/24 08:40 Re: A year's worth of farming and some trains Author: Gonut1 Great farming videos with a splash of trains!
My 25' X 25' "farm"was very productive if not frustrating this year. Things settled down once I removed two groundhogs. "hog" is an understatement! Than deer were eating the tomatoes that hung through the fence and eventually broke through and sampled the Lima Beans and Beets. As soon as I saw their scat I found where they broke through! Vine bores quickly found the Squash and Zucchinis, Cabbage Flies the same with the Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower and Brussels. Organic farming is tough.Tomatoes, Beans (especially), Carrots, Okra, Peppers Hot and Bell, Beets, Radish, Lettuces. Lots of good eats for the family and neighbors. I'm getting a bit creaky with age but I'll battle the critters again next year. Today I'll make home-made baked beans and the freezer is stuffed with frozen veggie goodies. Happy Thanksgiving! gonut Date: 11/23/24 10:52 Re: A year's worth of farming and some trains Author: CSX2605 SeaboardMan Wrote:

The planter changes the seed population according to the soil type. Tells you how many acres per hour, gallons of fuel per hour and so on. Lots of information to be had. With the Sloan empire devouring all the Alliance John Deere dealerships in your area, it's refreshing to see other brands that can get it done. The CSXT should pay you royalties for the Gleaner harvesting in front of the CSXT grain train. Auto steer...I remember having to flag for crop dusters before the technology came to fruition. You have a great video.
Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to share with fellow TO members that the semi delivery sequence is filmed "Rollin down highway 41". For the musically inclined. Great video, hope the harvest was safe; a lot to be thankful for. Date: 11/24/24 13:38 Re: A year's worth of farming and some trains Author: CSX2605 IC1038west Wrote:

In that clip we were delivering a contract of corn to Farbest at Bruceville. Driving on 67 along the old Pennsy line to Vincennes. Been gone since '75 or so.
