Toys for Tots on the North Shore RR
Author: Pattenburg

On November 23, 2024 North Shore Railroad hosted NARCOA speeders for the twenty-first annual “Toys for Tots” drive with Central PA Excursions. Even though nineteen track cars were scheduled to be part of this contingent, two were no-shows because of Friday’s weather. As to what that weather was like, it was a heavy wet snow that northeast PA got hit with downing trees and knocking out power.

Prior to starting this eighty-six-mile round trip, PA Senator Lynda Culver would judge the best decorated speeder at NSHR’s Northumberland office. After that, the procession was off making stops in Danville, Rupert, Bloomsburg and Berwick. Seen here is its first stop at Danville’s Middle School. Upon reaching Berwick the cars would be turned in the BIDA complex before heading back to Northumberland over the former EL tracks. Attached are a few images from that “Toys for Tots” trip.

  1. In Northumberland, the track cars were unloaded and placed on the NSHR’s tracks. A “gingerbread house” was one of three track cars unloaded from this eighteen wheeler.
  2. Coming into Danville’s Middle School parking lot people were already waiting on what was a cold and windy morning.
  3. After their scheduled stop in Rupert was done, the track cars crossed over the Fishing Creek Bridge and proceeded to Bloomsburg which was the next to last stop for them.

The journey continues...

Coming into Berwick's North Oak Street is one of the nicely decorated track cars and a procession of some of the other track cars that particiapted in this "Toys for Tots" drive.

Never found out who won but I would be willing to bet it was the Gingerbread House track car.

Nice looking at those decorated speeders. Lots of effort.
