Sciotoville Bridge.

C&O built an absolutely massive bridge over the Ohio River.  I was lucky enough to pull up a few minutes before this eastbound grain train began crossing the bridge.

Wow, that is a great video showing a really great piece of engineering from the past and still serving CSX today.  Thanks for sharing this video with all of us.

Great video, the slow fly-by at the end is a great view and scale comparison.

With only three piers there must be a huge thermal expansion and contraction.

Are both tracks in service?  The 2nd track look unmaintained.

The bridge is unusually massive -- as I recall,
one reason was that the navigation channel
was under one span at low water and the
other at high water. Is that still true?

Thanks for sharing a wonderful video. Your drone footage is skillful.

It is my understanding that the span across the river is about 775 feet. That would be almost 9 ft. in HO scale.

Each span, you mean. Two 775-ft spans.

I believe both are in service as far as I know.

Looking at this again, I wonder what those criss-cross patterns inside the bridge are for?
High wind deflectors maybe. It can't be for decoration!

I do not know very much about these photographs. Back in 2018, I got photographs and work sheets from about a dozen wrecks and incidents on the GTW, from the Son of Mr. Anders, JQ Jr. After his father passed away, he and his mother went through his Father's home office and found a group of Derailment Photographs.

The Photographs and other information shown here are from James Quinten "JQ" Anders. Retired GTW Assistant Chief Engineer. Mr. Anders passed away on March 14, 2017.

I put them on my  Facebook page and shared them with several groups and Current/Retired GTW/CN/DTS/DTI Employees.

There is no information about these photographs. The envelope that they were in says: B & O RR SCIOTO RIVER BRIDGE.

I didn't do anything with these back then because I didn't know anything about them.

But seeing this thread on the Sciotoville Bridge, I got them out and scanned them.

B&O crossed the Scioto at Chillicothe, Ohio. I would guess some or all of those are from that area.

Thank You....  Like I said, there was no paperwork with this group of photographs, and I'm not familiar with the area.
