CSX Introduces New Training Locomotive to Enhance First Responder Training


There's a video embedded in the article.
In the viedo, even the employees refer to it as a "locomotive." It's not. Unless they figured out a way to use water as fuel.

Does anyone remember the 4 axles GE that CSX retired (U36B MCVX 7764) and used in a similar role on the old  CSX "Safety Train" they kept stationed in West Springfield, ma?   I wonder where that loco husk has gone to...

That was U36B MCVX 7764 and was donated to the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society in North East, PA. Their proximity to Erie has made that organization a GE museum of sorts.

Well...it is a repurposed locomotive.....

I read somewhere that all CSX did was cut the fuel lines on this locomotive and cleaned it up a bit but OBVIOUSLY it has undergone a MAJOR overal to install simulation equipment. I wonder if we will ever see it going from place to place??

IT will be put with the rest of the hazmat training cars so that the whole can presented for a more holistic training event. We have such cars that go around the system...I don't know if they are routed on requrest or the company puts out the word that the set will be in a certain area and all agencies nearby can come for training. It's a good idea actually.

Thank you for your astute observation.
Had you bothered to read the article, you would have seen that "my title" (at least as much as would fit in the subject line) is essentially the headline of the CSX article. That was intentional--so as to introduce zero editorial content. Then the complete headline was reproduced--word for word--in the link to the article.

Theres some real PSR level decision making. Spend money to convert a SD70Mac into a SD70AC then turn around and make it a non operating training unit. Vs converting a non rebuilt engine to the training unit. That upgrade kit from Progress isnt cheap
