Eastern Railroad Discussion > New power for the Aberdeen & Rockfish RRDate: 02/03/25 16:06 New power for the Aberdeen & Rockfish RR Author: ShortlinesUSA Taken just a few hours ago as CSX M583-02 heads south out of Chattanooga, TN bound for Rocky Mount, NC. Trailing are two ex-Dakota Minnesota & Eastern (DME) GP40-3s now crudely lettered as AR 4002 and 4004. 4006 is yet to come. All are coming from MEI in E. St. Louis, MO. I don't know the plans for these but at least one is headed for the A&R owned Pee Dee River RR (PDRR) in McColl, SC. They should be set off in Hamlet, NC.

4004 headed to Pee Dee in McColl SC. I’m sure both will be adorn in shinny new paint soon - 4002 in blue and silver and 4004 in orange. Might need to make a trip to Aberdeen now.

Jim-- Thank you for the more definitive info. Interesting the orange is back on the PDRR. They painted two of the GP16s in A&R colors but it seems like the orange pair are the go-to power. Ray-- If at all possible you should set your sights on Fayetteville. Much better chance of getting them working over there. The only work in Aberdeen is right along the CSX interchange with the small transload there. Fayetteville is Monday through Friday at the River Terminal and then into town to interchange with CSX and RJ Corman midday to early afternoon. They run out to Raeford one or two days a week from Fayetteville. Mike Posted from Android Date: 02/03/25 19:24 Re: New power for the Aberdeen & Rockfish RR Author: scraphauler ShortlinesUSA Wrote:

I think they have the GP 7 and GP 20 in town, both kept indoors when not working, plus the CF7 is stored outside dead and drained. They haven't used it since the GP38-3 (rebuilt GP 50) went into service. Before blocking main there was always 2 or 3 excess motor parked at engine house. If you are going to be in area 2/13 thru 2/16, ACWR's dinner train will be in town for their Valentine's trains. Will likely be the painted E and F bracketing the twin dinner and Pinehurst heavyweight. Departure is 630 downtown Aberdeen and will run out to somewhere around my house and return. I assume they'll keep train downtown during day, if not, it will probably be up in the passenger car tracks at Pinehurst edit - pic is a couple years ago when they were painting 5830 Edited 1 time(s).
