Today is the 156th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad

1. Taking a bit of a gamble this morning, we headed over to the Valley Park Marina and secured permission to try and grab a shot of NS Chicago - Buffalo intermodal Train 28B. It is a gamble as it is unpredictable if west of Vermilion the train will take the Lake Shore line to Cleveland, or swing over at CP 224 to the Nickel Plate. If you get set up on the Nickel Plate, as we are here, and he goes straight through ... well it is gameover and you loose. And there are no second chances as this may be the only daylight train here today, or for many hours. Luck was with us, and we capture the planned photo of BNSF 5687 and 7734 leading 28B east.

2. Moving west to Coen Road on the Lake Shore line and here comes Train 310 scorching the ballast at a good rate of speed. At Cleveland this train cuts over to the NKP for the run into Buffalo, then over the former Erie Lackawanna to East Binghamton, NY. Power today is NS 4230, 1146 and a ratty looking UP 6067. Lots of frac sand up front.

3. Then further west to Frailey Road is Train 052 eastbound, an interesting high and wide with NS 7671 providing the horsepower.

Nifty gas pump! In 1964 I was a teenage "pump jockey" at an Atlantic service station. The high test gas was "Atlantic Imperial" which was denoted by a heavily embossed emblem in a gold color on the pumps.
The boss when he opened the station in the late Fifties bought a 49 Chevy beater pickup truck, painted it dark blue and got a pair of those gold logos and installed them on the doors of the truck. It was pretty sharp looking for a beater! It was our road service vehicle. He still had the truck when he retired and sold the gas station in 1966.
Nice that the marina welcomes you to photo from there.
