Eastern Railroad Discussion > N&W on the ICDate: 05/10/25 18:47 N&W on the IC Author: bodkin6071 Back on TO after a brief hiatus...and on to the scheduled program.
Back on the evening of April 18th, got wind CN was running a northbound empty grain train towards Memphis, G889, with a pair of NS units for power. One of them was not just any NS unit, but the Norfolk & Western heritage unit #8103. And even better it was the lead unit. So contemplated my plans of catching the train the next day. April 19th comes, and I decide to head all the way south to Fulton, KY and catch it as it entered the yard for a crew change and eventual departure north, that I would chase it and intercept it at various locations on my way home. Once at Fulton I arrived a few hours before its arrival and waited. After a short pause at the Drop Table (wheel inspection station where if anything needs serviced, it can be done without setting out the offending car) in South Fulton, TN, it eased into the yard and encountered yet another pause to wait for an available crew to take it on to Champaign, IL and eventually its terminus of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Now on to the show. 1-3. G889 with NS #8103 after arrival in the Fulton, KY yard. These were taken with the drone. Date: 05/10/25 18:51 Re: N&W on the IC Author: bodkin6071 4-5. Finally receiving a new crew, G889 heads out of Fulton up the Centralia side.
6. Cruising through Bardwell, KY. Date: 05/10/25 18:56 Re: N&W on the IC Author: bodkin6071 7. The shot of the day. G889 crosses the Ohio River over the Cairo Bridge to make its entrance into Illinois.
8. Rounding the curve at Balcom 9. And finally at Carbondale. The train was making good speed the whole time so I was pretty well limited on the spots I could stop at and get it. Date: 05/10/25 19:34 Re: N&W on the IC Author: chessiegp39 Awsome! Thanks for sharing.

Back in April the Ohio River level was high so nice capture also of that time. At least the weather allowed a shot from any angle. ;) Great set of photos from the chase!
