Eastern Railroad Discussion > A little DT&I orange.....sorta.Date: 05/13/25 10:05 A little DT&I orange.....sorta. Author: jbohdan2 Last Saturday, May 10, I ventured over to Fostoria, Ohio to observe and shoot the action around the Iron Triangle. Traffic was pretty steady between NS and CSX as usual, but not much out of the ordinary other than CSX #1981Pan Am unit idling in the south yard. As I made my way west heading for home I made the typical hits at the junctions at Deshler and then Hamler along the former B&O. North of Hamler, I encounter this southbound mixed freight on the I&O with one of their recently repainted C44-9W leading on their slow trek. While I would prefer the old standard cab EMDs that I last saw leading a southbound here some years ago, the infrequency of my visits and the unpredictability of the line's moves beckoned the decision to chase. The slow speed of the decent sized (300+ axles) train made for a leisurely pursuit. The first view is rounding the curve and addressing the home signal at Hamler after waiting for the passage of a CSX westbound. The telephoto compression on shot four as the train approaches the approach signal for the NS diamond at Leipsic exagerates the amount of sag the six axle GE unit puts on the elderly jointed rail. the last shot shows the train rolling through Leipsic soon to exercise trackage rights beginning at XN over CSX for the run to Lima, Ohio and a return to home rails there. All in all, a pleasant encounter on a drive home.
