I really don't know where it originated, I haven't looked into it. All I honestly cared about was it worked out where I could grab some shots close to home without traveling. It came through my backyard but I did go 20 miles south to Newnan to get the first shot. On other notes, all the political bickering is bs. Not one person has mentioned the real reason for the equipment going for the parade. Its to honor the 250th birthday of the US Army and those who served and are currently serving. But everyone is making it all about bs. Ah. This great land we live in smh lol. I can't imagine those tanks traveling down city streets without doing some heavy damage. Date: 06/07/25 14:45 Re: CSX S554 military train headed to DC for the 4th of July para Author: BuddPullman The money spent for such a parade would be better served as additional funding for serving our Veterans.

Why are political statements only allowed on Trainorders when they go in one direction. Seriously debating whether to reup my subscription, or not, when it ends. If I want that TDS crap I'm sure I can find CNN on my TV, although it's been over a decade since I bothered to look. The TO Passenger Trains forum may as well be on the DNC's website. ------------------------------------------------------- > I can't imagine those tanks traveling down city streets without doing some heavy damage. That is the plan. Part of the cost of having the parade is to prepare the streets for the weight of the tanks and repair the streets afterwards. The army is planning on using rubberized treads on the tanks to reduce the damage but there will still be an impact. I never thought I'd see the day that a suggestion that 45 million US dollars for a military parade could be better spent on providing services directly to veterans would be considered "TDS" but here we are. Date: 06/08/25 13:14 Re: CSX S554 military train headed to DC for the 4th of July para Author: DJS The streets that will be the path of the equipment will be lined with 1" thick steel plates plus the rubber applied to the tracks. As far parades and the political nonsense, I never hear, not once hear anyone on either side complain about the 3 communists outfits having their parades. Granted we're obviously not on the hook for it , but the same principle still applies. This is something that has been in the making for quite a while. I guess every 4th of July, these same people must lose their minds.

I made a similar comment a few days ago and it disappeared (along with the post I quoted). Proud to be an American. Many members of my family and extended family serve and still serve in the military. Cutting veterans benefits and military funding and then throwing an expensive parade? Not cool. Just remember, there is a constant connection between Government policies and the "choo-choos" we all enjoy (directly or indirectly). So, how does Amtrak benefit from this parade? No benefit to Amtrak, then what is the benefit for freight railroads? A chance to run military equiment behind their special units for a photo op? |
